Can the side input on a Rainbird sprinkler be used as an outlet to attach a drip system for a potted plant?

No, that is an alternate inlet source only. You cannot run tubing out of it as well. You can only use the side inlet if you cap off the bottom inlet. But both inlets cannot be used simultaneously.
You also do not want to run a drip zone at the same time you run a spray zone. The watering times do not match up at all.
